SkyCity Hamilton, the Waikato's premier entertainment destinations, located in the heart of Hamilton's CBD. As part of a major roof and plant room refurbishment, ageing fibre cement ventilation components were replaced with engineered aluminium louvres and cowls supplied by Ventuer, delivering a durable solution while maintaining the performance of the existing mechanical systems.
SkyCity Hamilton, the Waikato's premier entertainment destinations, located in the heart of Hamilton's CBD on the banks of the Waikato River. Home to gaming facilities, hospitality venues, function spaces, and entertainment offerings, the complex welcomes thousands of visitors each year and relies on well-designed building services to maintain a comfortable indoor environment.
As part of ongoing building maintenance and upgrade works, repairs were required to the roof and plant room areas of the ageing facility. Existing louvres and ventilation cowls, which had originally been formed from fibre cement sheet, had deteriorated over time and were no longer providing the durability and weather protection required for long-term performance.
To support the refurbishment, Ventuer supplied numerous Ventilation Cowls alongside VL-104D single bank weather louvres, with installation completed by McAra Air Conditioning. The new systems replaced the ageing ventilation components, providing a modern, durable solution while maintaining the airflow requirements of the existing mechanical plant.
The VL-104D is a high-performance single bank weather louvre designed to deliver an effective balance between airflow and weather protection. Its drainable blade profile assists in capturing and ejecting rainwater before it can enter the building envelope, making it well suited to commercial developments where dependable ventilation performance is required.
Attention was given to the replacement of the existing ventilation cowls. The original fibre cement sheet cowls were removed and replaced with purpose-designed aluminium units engineered to match the airflow characteristics of the existing system. This ensured the upgraded cowls would not introduce additional pressure loss or restrict airflow to the mechanical plant, allowing the system to continue operating as intended while improving durability and weather resistance.
Complementing the louvre systems, the Ventuer Ventilation Cowls facilitate natural exhaust and intake airflow within the rooftop enclosure. Manufactured from aluminium and designed to withstand long-term exposure to the elements, they provide a robust solution for protecting ductwork and ventilation openings while maintaining system performance.
For a facility such as SkyCity Hamilton, ventilation plays a critical role in supporting occupant comfort and the ongoing operation of mechanical systems. The combination of weather-protected louvres and engineered roof-mounted cowls helps ensure air can move freely throughout the building while protecting equipment and internal environments from wind and rain.
The SkyCity Hamilton project highlights the importance of carefully engineered replacement ventilation systems in refurbishment projects. Through the supply of VL-104D weather louvres and custom-engineered Ventilation Cowls, Ventuer contributed to a long-term solution that modernised ageing infrastructure while preserving the performance of the building's existing mechanical systems.
