Tumut Multipurpose Centre

Tumut Multipurpose Centre is a purpose built facility that serves as a hub for sports, recreation and events, as well as an emergency evacuation centre for the Snowy Valleys community in New South Wales. Tumut experiences significant seasonal temperature changes, with hot summers and cool winters. This meant the building ventilation needed to respond to changing conditions, allowing the louvres to open when additional airflow was required and close for increased protection against adverse weather.

To fulfil this requirement, Ventuer supplied the OL-100S Operable Twin Weatherstop Louvre. Designed for demanding environments, the OL-100S provides adjustable airflow and a high level of weather protection, with the ability to close when required. When closed, rubber seals to the twin weatherstop blades provide maximum rain defence and help protect the building interior. The strong blade profile also makes the system suitable for long spans and high wind loads.

Snowy Valleys Council engaged Facility Design Group to design the centre, drawing on the practice's specialisation in aquatic, sports and community facilities. The facility was designed not only as a community hub, but also as an evacuation centre for the town, strengthening community resilience by providing shelter and access to emergency services when required.

The exterior combines lighter fibre cement with dark steel finishes and white aluminium accents, creating an industrial architectural palette. To complement this design, the aluminium louvres were finished in a white powder coat to integrate with the surrounding façade.

The result is a ventilation solution that complements the building's industrial aesthetic while providing the flexibility to respond to Tumut's changing weather conditions.
